NYC Bar Could Face Charges In Alleged Sale Of Wis. Beer

New Glarus said it didn’t sell the beer. It’s only licensed to sell in Wisconsin, and distribution rules are very strict because of liquor taxes.But the brewery said it’s excited to see a demand for Spotted Cow beer.”I’m just extremely flattered that people in New York would want our beer. It’s kind of cool for a little brewery, and I feel really bad for the ex-pats living in New York that can’t get their Spotted Cow fix,” said Carey.Carey said despite knowing that others are interested in the beer, the brewery intends to continue selling only in Wisconsin so it can concentrate on quality not quantity.

I like how this bike was too tall for her, but they still managed to make it work on an aesthetic level with that handlebar set. Everything on top is just super flat, almost like it’s ready to perform a quick getaway by ducking under a truck.

Licensing your music to a commercial outlet doesn’t inherently make the music worse, and often music is resilient enough to overcome the commercial message. But under certain circumstances the music and message become inescapably intertwined. And of course those circumstances and opinions may vary.
Though I design web banner ads, I have never, nor will I ever, design one of those horrifying ab and tooth ads, any ad that mentions Obama and Mom’s in the same sentence~~, or any ad that uses sexy women to sell utterly useless products~~.

A man’s gotta know his limitations.

What difference does it make if a band can make some scratch buy licensing their music to an ad? Does it make the song worse?

God forbid you make some money at this music thing.

Actually yes it does. I mean, not that Of Montreal was good to begin with, but the fact that they licensed their tune makes me unable to disassociate that band from the Outback Steakhouse. Now, I’m not criticizing them for making this business decision, and I’m glad they could make probably a lot of money off of their talents, I’m just sayin’…they’re the Outback Steakhouse band now.

Their music has also been used in ads for NASDAQ, Garmin, T-Mobile, Comcast, and in the shows Ugly Betty and Weeds. And fucking good for them. Critical acclaim doesn’t pay the rent.

I wasn’t criticizing their business acumen. If they’re fine with being The Outback Steakhouse band, that’s fine with me. I design web banner ads for a living so it’s not like I’m contributing to the pinnacle of art. I’m just answering your question: yes, the fact that this song was used in an Outback Steakhouse commercial does make the song worse. Whatever the original intention of the song, whatever artistic merit it had, it’s now being blocked by a big bloomin’ onion.
